Working Time Opt Out - Latest News

The latest news from Europe on the Working Time Opt Out clause, is that the UK gained enough support in opposition to it being abolished, that a decision was prevented from being taken. This means that the opt-out remains in place for the near future, with a decision not likely to be taken again now until 2006.

Although business groups are generally pleased by the outcome, as they believe the opt-out provides greater flexibility for employers and employees, other commentators believe it promotes an outdated long hours culture in the UK.
