Team Building - the HR Advantage way!

Last month four members of the HRA team took part in a Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.   Only one of the team is a regular runner, one other exercises fairly regularly, a third talks about doing it but the conditions have to be just right and the fourth can't run but agreed to walk the 5K instead.

For various reasons not a lot of training went on prior to the race and expectations amongst Team HRA and the wider company as a whole were pretty low.   In the final event all four either ran or jogged the course and finished within a very credible 38 minutes - a fantastic feat considering the lack of training and the hot weather conditions.   How did we do this?   Quite simply Teamwork!   We shared our knowledge with each other on how to approach the situation, discussed tips on how to cope with the conditions, and we encouraged each other along the way.   At the end we all exchanged experiences and congratulations, and shared in the glory of our success.

As Michael Jordan the famous basketball player once said 'Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.'

Team-building is a good way to motivate individuals. If you can get everyone in your business to feel part of a team, you'll get more out of them.

Teams build motivation in people because of a number of factors:

·          There's a social aspect - it's more enjoyable working with others than in isolation.

·          Teams stimulate innovation - interaction between team members throws up new ideas for solving problems.

·          People will feel loyalty to the team, and not want to let others down.

·          The competitive element in individual team members drives performance.

·          A sense of belonging makes people feel they're valued and builds motivation.

·          In business competition is In organizations Sometimes there are particular reasons to focus on team working:

Sometimes there are particular reasons to focus on team working:

·          New members or other changes to how the team is made up

·          Re-organisation - new reporting structures/ merging of teams etc.

·          New processes within the organisation

·          New challenges that require co-operative working

·          Relationship issues within the team

·          Communication problems within or between teams

·          Need to celebrate success - or recover from setbacks

Even the best team can improve its performance - football teams don't stop training when they reach the top!   A high performing team can sometimes be motivated to do even better.   So why not book a meeting with one of our dedicated trainers to discuss how they can help your team get even better! PS. We managed to raise about £800 along the way!
